The Craig Rural Fire Protection District was established
in 1921 as a volunteer fire department. Today, Craig
Fire/Rescue is a paid-on-call fire department with 27
active firefighters and a 2011 Rookie class of 3 who respond to calls within the
180-square-mile fire district.
Craig Rural Fire Protection District is a special tax
district that is governed by a five-person board of
directors who are elected by the public.

Craig Fire/Rescue firefighters operate within a
paramilitary structure and the chain of command includes
two battalions each lead by a lieutenant and captain. The
fire chief oversees the leadership of each battalion. |
