Moffat County HazMat was formed in 1999 as a joint venture between Craig Fire/Rescue, Moffat County and the City of Craig. The HazMat team, lead by HazMat Chief Bill Johnston is comprised of 10 HazMat Technicians and responds to a variety of hazardous emergencies. Moffat County HazMat is the Designated Emergency Response Authority (DERA) for all hazardous incidents in Craig and Moffat County and participates in an intergovernmental agreement with both Routt and Rio Blanco counties to provide a similar service when requested. Moffat County HazMat responds to a variety of hazardous incidents including tanker rollovers, methamphetamine and other clandestine labs, unknown chemicals/substances and other requests of hazardous environments/atmospheres.
